Principal’s Speech at Junior High Completion Ceremony,
March 24th, 2017
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen ? I would like to extend my deepest appreciation to each one of you for joining us here today at the GKA Junior High completion ceremony. As they always do at this time of the year, plants and trees are budding and bursting into full bloom, filling our hearts with hope and joy. After all the efforts they have made, I’m sure that all the parents here are filled with delight to see their children reach this special day.
I have just presented junior high school certificates to the grade nine students seated here. You are indeed ready to enter a new stage in life. It has been a blessing for me to have been able to spend so much time with you on this campus, observing all of you studying and taking part in school events and extra-curricular activities.
I would like to say a few words as you face this important turning point in your lives. You are in the process of choosing from many different paths, and I wish you all good luck in whatever awaits you.
First, I want you to maintain an intense curiosity in your learning, and a passion to take on new challenges. For this, you need to know your own identity. I urge you to listen to your inner voice and understand yourself more. In the days that come, you will definitely encounter new knowledge, fresh information and a diversity of people. Nobody but you ? each one of you ? has the power to open up new horizons and proceed toward your own future. Remember the proverb, “Nothing ventured, nothing gained.”
Secondly, I want you to have clear goals and make every effort to achieve them. Once you have made up your mind, all you have to do ? is to actually put your ideas into practice. This process is very important. Of course, hardships may befall you and prevent you from realizing your dreams, or force you to reset your goals. However, I am convinced that this whole process will turn out to be a precious experience, and a priceless investment toward your ultimate goal, wherever your long lives take you.
Third, I would like you to appreciate the meanings of your lives, though for the moment, you may find them hard to understand. Nothing in life remains the same. In the years to come, you will definitely get to know the reality of what I mean. Unexpected, and at times, astonishing events suddenly occur in the course of long ? maybe profitable, maybe tedious ? routines. In all situations, I want you to be happy, pro-active and forward-looking.
Steve Jobs, an American businessman and the founder of Apple Incorporation, left us many inspiring remarks. Let me introduce one of these to you. He once said, “I didn’t see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life.” Jobs’ words remind us ? our entire lives are gifts that we should all appreciate to the full.
Finally, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to our parents. We would like to thank you for your great contributions and constant cooperation with all the unconventional ? and innovative ? educational practices you have witnessed here at GKA. We wish all of you, parents and students, health and happiness in the years to come, especially those wonderful students who are completing their studies at Junior High on this beautiful early spring day. May your futures ? personally, professionally and spiritually ? be bright, happy and fulfilling.
