3年生の小さな奇跡：モンシロチョウの卵が目の前でふ化！

ある日、3年生の教室で、自然の神秘に満ちた驚きの瞬間が訪れました。

小学3年生は、虫眼鏡を使って生き物を観察する練習をしました。その生き物とは、モンシロチョウの卵です（上の写真をご覧ください）。

Wi-Fiでスクリーンに接続された電動顕微鏡を使って、子どもたちはキャベツの葉の裏にある、わずか1ミリのモンシロチョウの卵を観察していました。色や質感を言葉で表現しながら見ていると、卵の中で何かが動いているのが見えたのです。

そして次の瞬間、子どもたちの目の前で小さな幼虫が卵からふ化しました！
驚きと喜びに包まれた教室では、「ハッピーバースデー」の歌が自然と響き渡ります。
先生が「どうして歌ったの？」と尋ねると、児童からは、「だって、今日生まれたから！」

でも、驚きはそれだけではありませんでした。

ふ化したばかりの幼虫が、自分の卵の殻を食べ始めたのです！
教科書を開くこともなく、子どもたちはモンシロチョウの命のサイクルの一部を、実際に目で見て学ぶことができました。

自然を観察し、感動することで、最高の学びが生まれる——そんなことを実感した一日でした。

A Tiny Miracle in Grade 3: Cabbage White Butterfly Egg Hatches Before Our Eyes

In a moment of unexpected wonder, Grade 3 students recently witnessed a rare and beautiful part of nature’s life cycle — live and up close.

The grade 3 students were tasked to practice observing a living thing using a magnifying glass. The living thing is a cabbage white butterfly egg (see picture above)

Also, using a WiFi-connected teacher electric microscope, students observed the tiny, 1mm-sized egg carefully tucked beneath a cabbage leaf. With their eyes glued to the big screen, they began describing the egg’s color and texture when something incredible happened: movement inside the egg.

Before long, to everyone’s amazement, a caterpillar began to emerge. The room lit up with excitement and spontaneous joy as the students broke into a heartfelt chorus of “Happy Birthday!” When asked why they were singing, one child simply said, “Because it’s born today!”

But the surprises didn’t end there.

As the newly-hatched caterpillar wriggled free, the students noticed it doing something unexpected — it was eating its own eggshell! With wide eyes and genuine curiosity, the class watched nature in action, witnessing a key stage in the butterfly’s life cycle without ever having to open a textbook.

It was a beautiful reminder that sometimes the best lessons happen when we simply observe and wonder.
