Grade 3: Social Studies – Neighborhood Walking Tour

第3学年　社会科　学校のまわりはどうなっているのだろう

社会科の授業で、3年生たちは地域社会と学校の関係などを学習しています。子どもたちは、自分自身で学校の周りがどうなっているのかを確かめるために、蛇川のようにわかりやすいランドマークと道路のみが載っている白地図を渡されます。そして、いくつかの地点で休憩し、学校近辺にどのようなお店があるのか、土地の使われ方をしているか、を記録していきます。このようにして実地を周ることで、地域についての理解を深めることができ、地域に住む人や働いている人のことについても視野を広げていくことができるのです。

In their social studies class, Grade 3 students are studying how our school fits in with the nearby neighborhood.  To help them visualize the area, students were given a blank map with only streets and major landmarks such as the nearby Hebigawa River.  Then students took a walking tour through the neighborhood and marked down where nearby shops were located and what land is used for on their maps. By seeing the neighborhood firsthand, students could build a strong connection with the area and get a better understanding of who lives and works nearby our school.
