Grade 5: Weather Reports

5年生は理科の授業で天気の変化について学びました。雲の動きが天気に与える影響についてや、日本のアメダスシステムについて理解を深めました。（アメダスシステムは、1,300を超える自動気象観測所のネットワークで、データを収集し、天気の予測に役立てられています）

子どもが楽しるような学習のまとめとして、児童たちは気象予報士のお仕事をロールプレイしました。天気予報レポートを作成して、天気予報をクラスに発表する活動となります。中には、帽子や傘などの小道具を使ったり、手動で風を起こしたりして、活動に取り組む子どもたちもいました。クラスメイトの発表を聞いている子どもたちは、発表についてメモを取り、最後に肯定的な感想を述べていました。おもしろい単元のまとめ活動となったと思います。

Grade 5: Weather Reports

Grade 5 studied a unit on weather patterns in science class.  They learned how cloud movement affects the weather, and they learned about the AMEDAS system in Japan, a network of over 1,300 automated weather stations that collects data and helps predict the weather.

As a fun closing activity, students role-played the job of weather forecaster.  They prepared a weather report and presented it to the class.  Some students included props such as hats and umbrellas, and even a student-powered wind machine!  Students who are listening to their classmates’ presentations can take notes about the performance and give positive feedback at the end.  It was an enjoyable finish to an interesting unit of study.
