Grade 2 “Walk the Room” Math activity

第2学年算数：「ウォーク・ザ・ルーム」

「ウォーク・ザ・ルーム」とは、児童が教室内を動き回り、様々な「ステーション」に置かれた教材に取り組む教育活動です。机に向かって勉強するだけの従来の授業とは異なる「ウォーク・ザ・ルーム」活動は、身体を動かすことで学習効果を得られる運動感覚型の学習者には有効な手立てです。

2年生では最近、「ウォーク・ザ・ルーム」という算数のアクティビティを楽しみました。子どもたちは教室に隠されたカードを探しました。それぞれのカードには算数の問題が書かれており、子どもたちは互いに助け合って問題を見つけ、全員が正答できるようにしました。算数のドリルを楽しみながら行う方法の１つです。

“Walk the room” is a pedagogical activity where students move around the classroom to engage with learning materials, often posted at different “stations.” By breaking the monotony of traditional desk-based lessons, “walk the room” activities directly address the needs of kinesthetic learners who benefit from physical movement.

In Grade 2, students recently enjoyed a “Walk the Room” math activity. The students searched for cards that were hidden in their classroom. Each card had math problems on them. Students  helped each other to find the problems, so all students could succeed.  It was a very enjoyable way to drill their arithmetic skills.
