Grade 2 Animal Research – ELA project

第２学年　動物についての調べ学習 – ELA授業

　2年生は学習発表会に向けて、動物についての調べ学習をしています。児童一人ひとりが、人間を助ける仕事をしている動物について学びます。選んだ動物について話すスピーチ原稿を書き、学習発表会で保護者に説明するためのポスターを作成します。

　調べ物を始める前に、子どもたちは自分の動物について知りたい疑問を考えました。その疑問を道標に、GKAメディアセンターの本を使って動物について調べています。

　このテーマが選ばれた理由は、2年生のELA（英語の授業）の教材文の多くが動物に焦点を当てていたこと、また生活科の授業で学んだ動物の知識と結びつくためです。最近読んだ物語文、「バックルさんとめいけんグロリア」では、警察官と警察犬グロリアのパートナーシップが描かれていました。

Grade 2 students are researching animals in preparation for Presentation Day. Each student will learn about an animal with a job that helps humans. The students will write a speech telling about the animal they chose and create a poster to present to their parents on Presentation Day. 

Before starting their research, the students came up with several questions they wanted to know about their animal. Using their questions as a guide, they are using books from the GKA Media Center to research their animals. 

The topic was chosen because many of the ELA stories in grade 2 focused on animals, as well as connecting to what they learned about animals in Life Studies class. The most recent story, “Officer Buckle and Gloria” showed a partnership between a police officer and his police dog, Gloria.
