Grade 3 Raise Swallowtail Butterflies

3年生の児童たちは、アゲハチョウの飼育員になりました！小さな卵から美しい成虫になるまで、アゲハチョウを育てる貴重な体験をしました。このプロジェクトは、ユズの木で見つけた卵を事務職員からいただいたことから始まりました。子どもたちは毎日、新鮮なミカンやディルの葉を与え、ケースを掃除し、日々の変化を観察シートに記録するということに責任感を持って取り組みました。幼虫が5回脱皮し、さなぎになるまでの過程を間近で観察できたことは、子どもたちにとって大きな驚きでした。

この活動は、理科的な学びだけでなく、チームワークや責任感を育む素晴らしい機会となりました。子どもたちは、チョウが成長する喜びを感じると同時に、元気に飛び立っていく姿を見送る寂しさも経験しました。生き物を大切に思い、敬意を払うことの重要性を学ぶ、実りある体験となりました。

Our Grade 3 students recently became insect caretakers! They had the amazing opportunity to raise swallowtail butterflies from tiny eggs to beautiful adults. The project started with eggs found on a yuzu plant and caterpillars donated by our school office staff. Students took on the responsibility of caring for them daily—providing fresh citrus and dill, cleaning cages, and documenting every change on their observation sheets. They were fascinated to watch the caterpillars molt five times before forming their chrysalises.

It was a powerful lesson in science, teamwork, and commitment. The students felt both the excitement of watching the butterflies develop and the bittersweet moment of releasing them into the wild once they were ready. Students had a wonderful hands-on experience in learning to respect and care for all living things!
