Discover the Joy of Reading English Books!

An event was held in the Elementary School to give younger students an opportunity to experience and enjoy English-language books.

The event was planned and organized primarily by Grade 9 students from the Secondary School. Working closely with Elementary School teachers and the school librarian, the students spent approximately six months preparing for the event. On the day, they created a variety of activities and experiences designed to help the younger students become familiar with English books while having fun.

During the event, the students worked together proactively, communicating with one another and taking responsibility for welcoming participants at the reception desk and supporting the various activity booths. They paid close attention to each individual child to ensure that everyone felt comfortable and could enjoy the experience. The venue was filled with smiles and positive energy throughout the event.

The six months of preparation ultimately paid off, making the event a meaningful opportunity for learning and interaction for both the participating elementary school students and the student organizers.

Below is a reflection from Chachana Kanai, one of the students who planned the event:

“I was deeply impressed to see so many children participate and enjoy the books with smiles alongside the support members. The idea for this event came from a desire I had when I was in Grade 6 to organize an event related to books.

When the event came to a successful conclusion, I felt incredibly grateful—not only for the smiles of the children, but also for the teachers who warmly supported us, the support members who gave their best throughout the event, and the children and parents who agreed with our purpose and participated.

The children did more than simply read English books. They shared their thoughts and impressions, wrote thoughtful reflections in English, and communicated their feelings to the support members in their own words. Seeing their enthusiasm made me strongly realize how dependable and capable our younger students are. It also reaffirmed my desire to continue organizing events like this in the future.”

At our school, we value learning experiences that connect students with the real world and provide opportunities for interaction across grade levels. Through these experiences, we aim to help students identify challenges for themselves, collaborate with others, and take initiative in turning their ideas into action.

We will continue to support each student in connecting what they learn at school with meaningful action and experiences in the wider community.
