World Scholars Cup Participation Report

On May 5-6, 82 GKA students competed in the Tokyo Round of the World Scholars Cup at Municipal Omiya International School. Using their English skills, students competed for medals and trophies, made friends from other schools, and had fun working with their teammates.
Some students even took part in the talent show, going up on stage to present in front of the 550 students who were gathered. One of our grade 11 students, Naoya Tsuruta, was selected for the debate showcase, and presented his arguments in front of the crowd. In the main events, students tested their knowledge across academic subjects, worked together to write about a complex topic, and created arguments for three different group debates without using devices.
The students all worked really hard, and they were rewarded with their medals and their alpacas at the end of the round.  Across the events, GKA students earned over 300 medals, demonstrating their outstanding effort and achievement throughout the competition. In addition to their strong performance, supervisors from other schools frequently commented on how hardworking and polite GKA students were during the event.

World Scholars Cup is a fun, English-language event that help students to develop their academic, presentation, and collaborative skills while introducing them to students from other schools and other countries. It offers students a chance to think creatively and boost their confidence in their English skills while learning how all of their academic subjects are connected. This year’s Tokyo Round was the largest ever, with approximately 550 students participating in the event. After the Tokyo Round, students who qualify are eligible to join Global Rounds, where they can qualify for the Tournament of Champions held at Yale in November. Global Rounds, which are much longer, offer more opportunities for students to interact with students from around the world and learn about their cultures and perspectives.

We appreciate all the parents/guardians, teachers, and staff who continue to support our students and make this event possible.
