Feel度Walk

Feel-度 Walk is an activity designed by Chikara Ichikawa, Representative Director of Mitsukaru + Wakaru, to develop the skills that form the foundation of inquiry-based learning.

As we go about our daily lives efficiently, our sensitivity and awareness toward the things around us and the feelings within ourselves can gradually become dulled without us noticing. At the same time, while we are surrounded by things that are designed to be interesting, are we losing the ability to find interest in the ordinary moments of everyday life?

At GKA Secondary, students take part in Feel度Walk during their school trips. Guided by small feelings of curiosity or a sense that “something catches my attention,” students look for ordinary things that they find interesting. They then sketch what catches their eye and use it as a starting point to create stories, ask questions, or write down what they notice and feel.

In Feel-度 Walk, we intentionally value the state of not knowing exactly what to look for. Rather than trying to find an answer right away, students simply walk, stop, observe, and move closer to whatever catches their attention. Through this repeated process, we hope that our GKA students will gradually sharpen their sensitivity to their own “I wonder…” moments and develop the ability to find interest and curiosity in the world around them.
