G12 – 【授業紹介】環境システムと社会（ESS）：生物多様性の評価 / Class Spotlight: Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS): Assessing Biodiversity

　12年生IBDP「環境システムと社会（ESS）」では、世界の様々な環境問題を切り口に、人間社会と自然のかかわりについて学んでいます。社会科学と自然科学の両方のアプローチを取り入れた、学際的な学びを生徒は体験しています。

　さまざまなデータを自分で収集するスキルを学べることもこのコースの特徴の一つです。この日は、身の回りの環境の生物多様性を評価するため、コドラート法を用いて校庭の植物数をカウントし、逆シンプソン指数を計算するフィールドワークを行いました。

In the Grade 12 IBDP Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS) class, students explore the relationship between human society and the natural world through a range of global environmental issues. The course gives students an interdisciplinary learning experience by drawing on both social science and natural science approaches.

Another key feature of this course is that students learn how to collect and analyze data for themselves. On this day, they carried out fieldwork to assess biodiversity in the school grounds. Using the quadrat method, they counted the number of plant species and calculated the Simpson index.
