Winner of the Grand Prize (Kihara Award)! The 6th Information Literacy Lesson Contest
Winner of the Grand Prize (Kihara Award)! The 6th Information Literacy Lesson Contest
Last year, our school library conducted an initiative to “Collect Newspapers Marking the 80th Anniversary of the End of the War and the End-of-War Commemoration Day.” Furthermore, the fifth-grade Japanese language arts lessons “Let’s Read the Newspaper” and “Tazunebito” utilized the collected newspapers. These combined efforts won the “Kihara Award,” the Grand Prize, at the 6th Information Literacy Lesson Contest.
We received cooperation from faculty, staff, all students, and parents in the newspaper collection effort, enabling us to gather valuable materials comprising 90 national newspapers, 131 local newspapers, and 17 overseas newspapers. The fact that the entire school was able to collect such a vast amount of material is a testament to the initiative’s success in leveraging our school’s international character.
The collected newspapers were utilized not only by fifth graders but also in the sixth-grade unit “Long-Lasting Wars and People’s Lives,” which won an Encouragement Award in the same contest under the theme “Fostering Information Literacy Through Manga.”
The other day, we held an awards and presentation ceremony at our school, where we received a book cart bearing our school’s name. We will take good care of it and use it with great care.
